CONTACT
of Fayetteville, Inc., is a non-profit Christian-based,
24-hour telephone crisis helpline and referral service.
The
CONTACT model for ministry originated in Sydney, Australia, by
Rev. Dr. Alan Walker. What began as a vision in the
heart and mind of one man as a caring response to human need
became an International movement -- Lifeline
International. That movement resulted in the establishment
of centers all over the United States, which today comprise
the CONTACT USA Network, which answers nearly 1 million calls
annually.
CONTACT
of Fayetteville, Inc. was founded by Rev. Wallace Kirby,
senior minister at Hay Street United Methodist Church.
On July 13, 1970, CONTACT began receiving calls and has served
without interruption since that day.
CONTACT
of Fayetteville, Inc., was one of the five founding centers in
the United States. CONTACT is overseen and fully
accredited by the national office, CONTACT USA. We
maintain one of the highest accreditation ratings of any
center in the United States.
The
CONTACT Crisis Helpline is staffed by volunteers who
successfully complete a course on active listening and
communication skills and who sign an oath of
confidentiality. They must also serve an apprenticeship
with an experience telephone worker.
Anyone
seeking someone to talk to, needing information and referrals
or crisis intervention may call us. CONTACT Crisis
Helpline offers its services to anyone who calls without regard
to sex, age, race, religion, political persuasion or national
origin.
People
who are lonely,
suicidal,
depressed,
in abusive situations, etc., call us. Volunteer
telephone workers help callers explore their feelings and
empower callers to reach inside themselves to find solutions.
